This year we look forward mark International Museum Day (MDM; International Museum Day, IMD) in our Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ICOM's event aims to promote the museum profession through creative events and activities and awareness of the role of museums as institutions that contribute to the society and its development. Social visibility and influence of the International Museum Day is growing from year to year, so in 2014 in its events attended by more than 35,000 museums in 145 countries. The organization of the event is linked to each year with a 18 May and conveniently designed projects may last for a day, a weekend, a full week or more.
General support event give two significant events that synergistically contribute to greater visibility among the international museum community around and, of course, the professional public. ICOM ie. MDM in partnership with the European Museum Night (La Nuit au Musée / Night at the Museum), run by the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Culture and Communication of France (Le Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication). It is directed primarily to new and young visitors by providing them with a different perspective on heritage and sensory experience. As another partner appears the European Museum Forum (The European Museum Forum), which is organizing a meeting of selected museums on the allocation of the European museum award year (European Museum of the Year Award / EMYA). On that occasion the awards in technical excellence and innovative approaches in communication, presentation and interpretation, which contribute to raising museum standards.
This year's theme is Museums for a sustainable society (Museums for a sustainable society). On this theme, which celebrates International Museum Day 2015, museums take an active role in the mediation of new ideas and public awareness of the need to adopt a new behavior towards the environment and resources. It means understanding that is necessary to develop new management system and redefining action in all areas of life - the economy, social policy and culture.
Modern museums, as institutions that communicate heritage content in the broadest sense, are called to lead in raising public awareness of the consequences of human activity and the need to change behavior patterns. Museums can achieve this by presenting resources and natural living systems, on the other hand, heritage contents that promote universal human rights, social and economic justice and a culture of peace on our planet. / MDM 2015
