Art and Existence: The Wedding Album

McKenzie Heritage Picture Archive (MHPA) was the first commercial black picture library set up in the UK; created in 1996 by Anita McKenzie, then a photographer, publisher and picture librarian. This presentation explores the motivation and purpose behind MHPA, in relation to the importance that images can play in reinforcing or challenging black identity. It culminates with examining images from Anita's personal collection to delve into African and Indian Caribbean identity and relationships, via her parent’s 1950s wedding album. Talk will be led by Rev. Anita McKenzie, photographer, publisher and picture librarian. For further information http://www.mckenzieheritage.com 14.30-16.00 Free, advance booking required
