International Museum Day: Museums for a sustainable society

Museum professionals, suppliers and other cultural agents in the city will be addressing the possibilities of sustainability and ways Institutions are working in that respect. The debate will be moderated by former Secretary of State for Climate Change Teresa Ribera.

Museo Picasso Málaga joins like this the 2015 International Museum Day, organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM); this year celebrates the theme Museums for a sustainable society.

The objective is to recognize the role of museums in raising public awareness about the need for a less wasteful society, more caring and that uses resources in a more respectful way for biological systems.

By applying the model of sustainable society to museums, the International Museum Day’s theme hopes to encourage awareness among society about the consequences of human action in our planet and the imperative necessity of changing its economic and social model.
