Trace the beginnings of Impressionism to the picturesque hamlet of Barbizon, near the Forest of Fontainebleau, and discover how the Barbizon painters including Millet and Daubigny developed artistic innovations associated with the Impressionists.
Barbizon painters enjoyed critical and financial success when the Impressionists were struggling for recognition, but more recently they have been overlooked.
This course explores the significance of art inspired by the forest in comparison with urban works created by Impressionists including Monet, Morisot and Renoir.
