Revealing Corinium’s Western Cemetery
An Afternoon Talk with Dr. Alison Brookes
Thursday 11 Decmber, 2.30 - 3.30pm
In 2011 excavations just outside the walls of Roman Cirencester revealed the unexpected survival of parts of the town’s western cemetery. Archaeologists recovered 71 inhumation and three cremation burials spanning from the late 1st to 4th century AD. Amongst the burials was a young child laid to rest with two grave goods: a small feeding cup and a bronze and enamel cockerel figurine. This nationally important acquisition to the Roman collection is one of only eight known from the Roman world. Join Alison to explore the findings of the excavations and view objects recovered from the graves.
