At least 10% of the collection of Greek vases displayed in the Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology belongs to the Reading Museum. The loan of these items (currently 305) has enabled a fruitful ongoing collaboration—since 1935—between the town and University museums and thanks to it the Greek vases can be actively researched and published by scholars, and admired by a range of visitors, including local school pupils and university students.
We will celebrate this collaboration and its great value for Reading’s heritage in 2 events especially organized for Heritage Open Days.
1. Lecture: “Greek women on South Italian vases”. Professor Smith will open your eyes to the variety of ways of understanding the presence of women on the Greek vases from South Italy.
2. Weekend trail. The Ure Museum will open especially for the public on Saturday to launch an innovative tablet trail.
