Making the Connection

A joint National Railway Museum and Your Fair Ladies day conference Tens of thousands of people have looked into their family trees to find railway workers and other people connected with the railway industry; discovering detailed information to put their lives in context is an exciting challenge. The Making the Connection conference will guide people through the material which can be found in archives and libraries whilst scene-setting British railways’ rich history. Expert speakers will set railways as a context for past lives, look at the history of the railway industry, reveal the true nature of mass leisure travel by rail in the late 19th century, and show how the railways quickly became a new opportunity for crime. Speakers include academic historians, specialist staff from the National Railway Museum and experienced genealogists. With practical elements during the day this will be a fascinating event, with something for both the experienced genealogist and those just starting the search for their railway ancestors.
