Although they only played a small role in the British Army, it can be seen as a significant step forward to the use of military working dogs today.
This talk will focus on the British use of dogs in wartime, specifically as messengers on the Western Front.
Recruitment, training and use during the last year of the war will be discovered and also the ways in which they may have been used had the war not ended in 1918.
The Armies of other countries utilised dogs in similar as well as very different ways and these examples will explore how diverse the use of dogs in the First World War was.
