A trilogy of plays will look at World War One, World War Two and modern warfare. WW1: ‘The Call Up’ A century ago a small village community sees a generation of young men leave to fight for King and Country. When the men are gone what happens to those that remain? Forest Forge shines a light on the personal stories that didn’t make it into the history books. WW2: ‘Keep Smiling Through’ As bombs fall on coastal cities in World War Two, children are uprooted from their parents’ homes and spirited away to the relative safety of the countryside. The way their new community welcomes the evacuees will stay with them for years to come. For some it is a time of adventure and new found friendships but for others it is a dark time of cruelty and homesickness. MODERN WARFARE: ‘In Our Name’ The military ‘community’ is a modern phenomenon, often living on the outskirts of a town or city, or absorbed into a society that struggles to understand them. This play looks at how modern warfare challenges both those that fight and the people they are fighting for.
