Philo Bregstein will be delivering a lecture on the discovery of an unknown aspect of two of the greatest German Jewish artists from the 20th century. Orchestra conductor, Otto Klemperer and diarist, Victor Klemperer both survived the Nazi regime and went on to achieve greatness in their respective fields. Though they escaped persecution in different ways, their lives still had many parallels. The lecture will focus on what we can learn from these lives about the distinctive nature of German Jewish assimilation in the 19th and 20th Centuries. Philo Bregstein is a well known filmmaker and author and a specialist in the history of film, the Holocaust and antisemitism.
