Poster, London Midland & Scottish Railway, Shap Fell, by Donald Maxwell, c1925. Landscape with train in middle distance. Text: The route of the Royal Scot. Nearly twenty centuries ago came the Roman legions by way of Shap Fell; it is two hundred years since Bonnie Prince Charlie passed there on his tragic journey south. Today Shap is a landmark on the main line to Scotland of the London Midland and Scottish Railway; the famous Pass rises one yard in seventy-five for four miles and the summit is nearly a thousand feet above sea level. From Shap there is a wonderful view across the hills of the Lake District to Mardale and Haweswater. Format: quad royal. Dimensions: 40 x 50 inches, 1016 x 1270mm.
