Oil on canvas. This view of the Grand Canal in Venice was one of nine paintings presented to the Government Art Collection in 1953 by Lady Helen Venetia Vincent (née Duncombe, 1866-1954), Viscountess d'Abernon. The Viscountess was the widow of Edgar Vincent, Viscount D'Abernon (1857-1941), a financier and diplomat who was, for a time, chairman of the Royal Commission on National Museums and Public Galleries (1927-37), as well as a Trustee of the National Gallery and later the Tate.
