The Toper

The title of this picture refers to a popular character in the long tradition of inn and tavern scenes in seventeenth-century Dutch painting. A man wearing a red cap holds a glass and a bottle in this image which may have been produced in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century, possibly in Germany. Size: 11.9 x 8.1 cm.
