The World of the Celts at the Glauberg

Die Keltenwelt am Glauberg

The Glauberg is a very special place and was already settled by humans as early as the late Stone Age. The finds from three Celtic burials from the 5th century BC, and the statue of a Celtic ruler are unique and recognised throughout the world as an archaeological sensation.

Our museum was opened in 2011 and is part of the World of the Celts at the Glauberg. This also includes a research centre and a large archaeological park. In the park you will find the reconstruction of a burial mound, a mysterious system of banks and ditches, and fortifications from early Celtic times. Further monuments from other historical periods can be seen on the Glauberg plateau.

The life-sized sandstone statue and the finds from the burials at the Glauberg remained undiscovered in the ground for nearly 2,500 years. The are the centrepiece of our exhibition and the original objects are on display. In addition you can also see the finds from settlements at the Glauberg and its environs, which are no less important. Multimedia installations and a fictional story in comic style that accompanies visitors transport our guests into the age of the Celts.

The exhibition at the World of the Celts at the Glauberg is housed in what is currently one of the most spectacular museum buildings in Germany. It sheds light on the culture of the Celts from a number of quite different perspectives, but the centrepiece is always the spectacular finds from the Glauberg.

The exhibition takes into account the enormous range of manifestations of “Celtic” culture – from the Celts of the 6th to 1st centuries BC, the would-be Celts of the British Isles, to today’s “Celtic world” in music, customs and fashion.

Visitors can also obtain the exhibition texts in French or English – just ask at the ticket desk!

The museum is barrier-free.
