Museum Oskar Reinhart am Stadtgarten
Patron of the arts Oskar Reinhart (1885–1965), who came from a wealthy merchant family, collected over 800 paintings in the course of his life. He visited the most important museums in Europe as well as many private collections, and devoted himself solely to art and art patronage. He bequeathed his collections as well as his private home, "Am Römerholz", to Switzerland.
Around 600 paintings by German, Swiss and Austrian artists from the 18th to 20th century are on view at the Oskar Reinhart Museums in the Stadtgarten (City Gardens). The villa "Am Römerholz" houses the 200 works of European art from the Late Gothic to the Classical Modern period that emphasize French painting of the 19th century.
