Centre for Engravings and Prints

Centre de la Gravure et de l'Image Imprimée de la Communauté Française de Belgique

A museum dedicated to the art of engraving, an exceptional collection, original exhibitions and a dynamic educational department!

The Centre de la Gravure et de l’Image imprimée (Centre for Engravings and Prints) disposes of an amazing, constantly evolving collection: 6.000 prints, 5.000 posters, 500 artists’ books and portfolios of more than 1.400 contemporary Belgian and foreign artists.

This reserve describes art from 1970 until now, from the traditional print until the new technologies and until the uncommon approaches.
The following is being discussed: illustrations, graphic art, typography, comic strips, books, popular images… A documentation centre with more than 10.000 works completes the scientific aspect of this unique place in Europe.

At 40 minutes drive from Brussels, a magnificent building with a surface of more than 3.000 m2 houses the Centre de la Gravure. Lovers, collectors, families, students, schools… every type of visitor can discover the world of prints through retrospectives of established artists such as Pierre Alechinsky, Louise Bourgeois, Jim Dine, David Lynch… but also through thematic, technical or historic exhibitions such as « Cri Persan », « L' Affiche chinoise»,  « La Lithographie 1797-1997 », « Un siècle de Collage en Belgique », « l’Imprimé dans l’Art urbain »,…

For each exhibition, original activities are organized in collaboration with the artists: guided tours in English, Dutch, French and Polish, conference cycles, game tracks, initiation workshops, engraving and typography trainings, educational packs… The “Centre de la Gravure” welcomes families with children; they can discover our exhibitions in an autonomous way, crossing the rooms by means of a little game book and “Barda-jeux”, the indispensable tool for young print lovers. In the “coin/découverte” at the reception, they can make use of clear and understandable texts as well as of models.

“Atelier Ouvert” [Open Atelier] is an initiative meant for artists wanting to work in an autonomous way. They can dispose of an engraving atelier and a typography atelier, both equipped with professional material. In a modern, illuminated and concealable conference room, we can welcome 25 persons during meetings and 45 persons during conferences. It is entirely equipped with multimedia devices.
