National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona

Museu Nacional Arqueològic de Tarragona

The National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona will give you an insight into a Roman City through its architecture, sculptures, mosaics and the personal effects used in the daily life of the citizens of ancient Tarraco, capital of the most important Roman province in Hispania.

The National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona is the oldest museum in its speciality in Catalonia. It was established during the first half of the 19th century with collections from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, although the largest part of the collection comes from excavations carried out in the last one hundred and fifty years, as a result of the construction of the modern port and the city’s extraordinary urban growth.
