The Museum Castle Zug is located in the heart of Zug´s old town. Since 1982, it has been collecting and presenting the history of Zug from the Middle Ages to the present day. With over 50,000 artefacts, the museum documents Zug´s history with great care. Part of this collection can be seen in the permanent exhibition and in temporary special exhibitions.
The permanent exhibition presents various aspects of Zug´s history and the former inhabitants of the castle in thematically self-contained rooms, from the Middle Ages to the world of the French Baroque and a 20th century pharmacy. This means that something new and fascinating can be discovered with every visit. But it´s not just the rooms themselves that are a testimony to history, the building with its special features also invites you to linger. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the cafeteria or in the castle courtyard or a game of chess or checkers in the Blue Room.
The special exhibitions provide in-depth insights into current as well as historically relevant topics of Zug´s or Swiss history. More information on the current special exhibition can be found on the website.
Various events and guided tours take place in the castle throughout the year. Varied programmes, such as on 1st of August or the annual Swiss Castles Day, invite visitors to explore the museum in a new way time and again. Information on current events can be found in the calendar on the website.
The castle is also a great destination for children and families. In addition to the playroom and craft studio, the age-appropriate children´s programmes encourage young explorers to discover the castle in a playful and interactive way.
