“Let‘s have a chat“

“Let‘s have a chat“ on fashion and other matters.

In the early 20th century, Lithuania observed European fashion through a keyhole - with curiosity and desire, but having a limited access. Today, designers of our country are already looking through a wide-open window, with unlimited access to global fashion tendencies and able to actively participate in their formation. The exhibition “Let's have a chat“ explores the evolution of fashion in the country from the early 20th century to the present day, and looks ahead to future visions of fashion. Mirrors here are a key element of the exhibition, symbolising both reflections on the past fashion and insights into the present and the future.

Starting with a glimpse through a keyhole, the exhibition ends with a symbolic glimpse through a wide-open window into the future, inviting visitors to contemplate what directions of development await for Lithuanian and European fashion. One of the exhibition's fundamental aims is to reflect the socio-cultural and economic life of a society that is mirrored by the changes in fashion over time. In this context, the ideas of women's liberation and political resistance during the period of occupation, reflected in clothing, play an important role. The 21st-century part of the exhibition focuses on unisex fashion trends, which symbolise today's societal aspirations to build an inclusive, egalitarian future. These trends reflect not only the evolution of the fashion world, but also illustrate broader changes in the society, where individuality and freedom of expression are becoming increasingly important orientations of value.
