Body sherd of pottery vessel. Incised. Fine walled, part burnished. Interior black and exterior light brown. From Armant. Found in 1997 in a box with 8 sherds labelled 'Armant 2 Pangrave sherd (Nubian Intrusion) 50/2945-50/2953'. This is a pan-grave sherd. The semi-nomadic Nubian people who entered Egypt in the Middle Kingdom and Second Intermediate Period buried their dead in shallow circular graves which archaeologists call 'pan-graves'. The pottery is hand made and incised.
