The vase is of inverted pear shaped form narrowing at the neck and flaring outwards and upwards to the rim, and high domed cover surmounted by a large pear shaped knop. The sides of the cover are pierced with seven oval apertures each is surrounded by festoons of acanthus leaf and honeysuckle flowers, which depend from knotted tassels. The body of the vase is decorated with bold festoons of fruiting vase caught up at invervals to form four sections. In each section is an oval medallion edged in bead ornament, the centre if each moulded with a portrait in shallow relief. Around the base of the body of the vase a band of upright papyrus leaves. The foot, which is circular, is similarly decorated.
