Insulators for telecom wires, Sweden Before cable became standard, telecom wires were pulled with lead wire that lacked external insulation. For the conduction not to be unintentionally grounded, with reduced signal strength or even line breakage as a result, insulators were used. The insulators were made in a variety of materials such as ebonite, faience, glass, gutta-percha, iron in combination with porcelain and porcelain only. Porcelain was considered to work best when the manufacturing method allowed for large series thanks, inter alia, to modern gas furnaces. Porcelain is also durable and has good electrical insulation capability. The subject belongs to the collection from Telemuseum which was donated by TeliaSonera AB to the Technical Museum in 2010.
