A National Union of Mineworkers diary from 1981. The diary includes notes on pay scales for mine workers and shows the weekly wage for a 'craftsman' at the coalface as being 111.95pounds, the equivalent of around 264pounds in 2004.
The NUM was an industrial union that represented all mineworkers above and below ground. It was established on the 1st January 1945 when the Miners Federation of Great Britain changed its constitution and became a national union.
