This is a battery-powered electric vehicle built by Partridge Wilson of Leicester in 1935. It was originally supplied to the Coventry Corporation and sold in 1947 to George Cox who ran an ice cream business in Leicester.
The vehicle was converted into an ice cream van to replace the hand carts George used previously. The van became a familiar sight in the New Parks area of Leicester until 1967 when George retired. He was known by all as 'Cocky' and commissioned the cockerel chrome plates fitted to the side of the van. George continued to use the electric vehicle despite the introduction of modern vans selling soft ice cream by the Cox family business.
This vehicle is not fitted with the chimes that are so familiar on ice cream vans as George preferred to use a hand bell. Donated by the Cox Family in 1973.
