The vehicle was first used in the 1920s to deliver bread and confectionery around the village of Fleckney from the bakery at the Co-op in Stores Lane. The Co-op was then known as the Fleckney Industrial and Provident Society.
It was at the end of its working life in the 1950s that the van was moved to a garden where it served as a pigeon loft for several decades, falling into a state of general disrepair and decay. It was not until building work was proposed on the site that a number of local enthusiasts stepped in to mount a possible rescue of the vehicle.
The bread van was purchased in 1995 and restoration finally completed in June 2006. The restored Fleckney Co-op bakery van was exhibited for the first time at the 'Holwell Steam and Heavy Horse Rally' in July 2006. The van was awarded the 'Wretfords Transport Centenary Trophy' for the best turned out horse-drawn vehicle at the rally.
