Clock Face

Wooden clock face in the lozenge shaped form of a hatchment, of oak with a softwood bolection-moulded frame ebonised and gilded. The panel of the clock face is japanned black, with the chapter ring and numerals gilded on it. The spandrels are painted and gilded showing (clockwise from the top) the impaled arms of Bowes & Blakiston, the Blakiston crest of a cockerel, the date "1700", and the Bowes crest of arrows (8). Presumably made for Streatlam. Purchased with the assistance of MLA/V&A Purchase Grant Fund. Size: 88 x 88 cm
