A dated pearlware jug, painted in polychrome with a scene at the mine with a horse gin and blacksmith's shop ( red building with chimney ). A wagon being laden with coals in the foreground. Near the shaft is shown two picks, corf, rake and two other unidentified objects. The gin race is clearly shown, and the draw beam appears to be made of an unshaped tree ( the weight at the base of the tree would serve to help the horse when turning the gin ). , , , , The reverse with a brown bat print of HOPE, inscribed in silver lustre ' Thos Smith 1808' beneath a polychrome guilloche border. The rims and handle picked out in silver lustre, 180 mm high.
