The painter Gabriel Jurkić was one of the best Bosnian and Croatian painters of the 20 century. He was born in Livno (1886-1974.), graduated at the Academy of Art in the Department of painting in Vienna, from 1911 to 1956 he lived and worked in Sarajevo, Zagreb, Dubrovnik and spent his final years in monastery Gorica-Livno. In 1995, a permanent memorial exhibition of his paintings emerged from his legacy to monastery, together with other paintings which had been collected by franciscans. His style covered Art Nouveau to Postimpressionism and realist. The paintings follow his artistic opus from his early output to uncompleted painting. His landscapes express the beauty of the Bosnian forests, downs, mountains and wild meadows. He was also an excellent portraitist. Jurkić's works "convey the poetry of celebrating beauty and wonder"
