Museu de Scrimshaw

The Scrimshaw Museum, a must for all visitors to Faial, contains a magnificent set of pieces carved from the teeth of sperm whales, engraved with beautiful sailing boats, mermaids, images of whale-hunting, among many others.

This is a private collection belonging to the owners of the “Peter Sports Café”, which is a famous meeting place for seafarers from all over the world. The books in which they have written their dedications over the years are also on display in the Museum. The collection also has bibliographies, documents and photos.

The Scrimshaw Museum is located on the floor above the famous Peter Cafe Sport in the city of Horta on Faial Island.
