Geelvinck Hinlopen House

Museum Geelvinck Hinlopen Huis

Experience this private city palace, dating from 1687. Together with its lush secluded garden, its living rooms celebrate an unexpected hidden wealth of historic design. Imagine yourself living today in the home of one of the wealthiest oligarch families of the Dutch Republic. Enjoy the elegant riches of the pre-industrial 18th and 19th Centuries. The Geelvinck house is renown for its historic pianoforte instruments, which often are used for small chamber concerts.

Chamber concerts all Sundays starting 4.45 pm, please see our concert calendar. You can buy tickets at the counter of the museum also; please reserve in advance at info@geelvinck.nl. The concert lasts about one hour and afterwards you can drink a glass of wine with the musicians.

Regular events, including dinners with a chamber concert on historic pianofortes and a tour around the museum (also english spoken), please see our event calendar. You can reserve tickets also by sending us an e-mail at info@geelvinck.nl (advance payment is required).

The museum also hosts a remarkable collection of historic fortepiano’s, the Sweelinck Collection. A small number of them is to be seen and heard during our chamber music concerts in the four rooms at the bel-etage and on our music podium at the Rembrandtroom downstairs. The majority of these instruments are now in depot. With a call for international collaboration we invite the advise of experts in the field of upkeep and restoration of fortepiano’s worldwide.

With our yearly Geelvinck Fortepiano Festival, we aim to stimulate the public’s interest for the preservation of this music-cultural heritage, making the classic past part of the present.

Free of charge for Iamsterdam City Card and Netherlands Museumkaart. You can buy the Iamsterdam City Cards at our reception desk too.
