Cologne is now on the river Ruhr - historic city model "Cologne 1571" in Mülheim - Ruhr

The globally unique 3D city model of "Cologne around 1570" has been housed at VILLA ARTIS in MMKM - Museum Mülheim on Ruhrstraße 3 since 2012. The model was created many years ago, in an era without Google Maps and other aids, by Theo Giesen (1922-1990) and others, based on a "copperplate engraving with oblique view" by Arnold Mercator (1570) and extensive research conducted over several years of painstaking work.

The active Mülheim Art Association KKRR, in collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Mülheim MMKM MUSEUM MODERNE KUNST, has included the model in the current Winter Gallery 2023/2024.

Visits are by appointment only, and admission is always free!
