The new temporary exhibition of the HNHM presents the mineral species discovered in the Carpathian region.
The nearly 300, mostly unique, mineral specimens are accompanied by posters with additional information and explanation, and dozens of photos and drawings. Every text in the exhibition is bilingual (Hungarian and English). Further information can be obtained from (English or bilingual) electronic databases accessible on a PC installed in the exhibition room. As a speciality of this exhibition, the large number of rarely exhibited specimens can be mentioned. Earlier never displayed, new mineral species, approved in the past 1-2 years are also put on show, which make this exhibition even more unique.
Not only the valid and discredited mineral species, first described from the Carpathian region but rocks, fossil resins and hydrocarbons are also exhibited, similarly to the scope of the book “History of minerals, rocks and fossil resins discovered in the Carpathian region” (published in 2004 in English, available in the bookstore of our library).
Dr. Josef Arnoth, mineralogist of Hungarian origin, living in Switzerland since 1956, donated several valuable collections to the Hungarian Natural History Museum in the last four years. Together...
