In a long-term project, Berlin-based photographer Jörg Brüggemann (*1979 in Herne) is engaging with the theme of the Autobahn - this huge carpet of asphalt and concrete that has woven itself over the landscape. As the Germans' monumental edifice, it represents and endows German culture. Before the image of our motorways changes radically over the next few years as a result of electric cars, car sharing and automated driving, Jörg Brüggemann once again records how extensively the combustion engine has shaped the mobility of the 20th century. In doing so, he has created a visual contemporary document about Germany and its autobahn.
