The exhibition „Vytautas Eigirdas (1957–2012). Painting“.
Dramatic, emotional and expressive world outlook permeates V. Eigirdas' paintings and drawings on biblical, mythological or bullfighting topics. The artist is known as a versatile creator, equally skillful in painting and drawing, however he treated himself as painter.
V. Eigirdas’ themes were alien in the Lithuanian art tradition. Intimidating and shocking but at the same time surprising and fascinating his works are interesting from the point of view of problematic selection. The artist painted ancient myths of Western Europe, the Spanish bullfighting scenes, and discovered the prophet Ezekiel's writings in the Bible that were neglected in the Christian world and in the traditional Lithuanian Catholic Church. He did not quote those texts, but interpreted, or simply used some items to portray the world.
This exhibition at Kaunas Picture Gallery is dedicated to Eigirdas' retrospective creation, to his colour comprehension and interpretations of painterly visions.
