The exhibition “Palette and Life”, dedicated to A. Žmuidzinavičius’ 140th birth anniversary

Artist, public figure, educator Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1876-1966) is known as an outstanding personality of Lithuania. He lived in a period of radical changes in the history of the country, had organized the first Lithuanian art exhibition, was a longtime chairman of Lithuanian Art Society, leader of  Lithuanian Riflemen's Union, scout, and a desirous traveller.

A. Žmuidzinavičius is one of the most famous landscape artists. Painting in his life ocupied an exceptional place. His creative legacy amounts to more than two thousand works: paintings, prints, watercolours, drawings, sketches.

Such human features as love for nature, sensitivity to the environment have determined A. Žmuidzinavičius’ realistic approach and the need to perpetuate the the exciting environmental images. Not to experiment, seek and aspire for new artistic trends, but to feel and admire, to be a true romantic, sometimes a symbolist – that‘s what he was aiming at.

On the first floor of Antanas and Marija Žmuidzinavičiai house the exhibition presents to the visitors the artist’s works from M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, Lithuanian Art Museum,  Šiauliai "Aušros" museum and private collections. Valuable and exceptional works were kindly loaned by A. and M. Žmuidzinavičius’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Special historical, cultural events are reflected in paintings from dr. Jaunius Gumbas’ and Rolandas Valiūnas’ private collection of works.

Visitors will see more than two hundred artworks from different creative periods.

Although the commemorative exhibition is organized on the ground floor of the  memorial house, the authentic interior and exterior, every corner of the house bespeak on the artist's life and work.
