The 10th Kaunas biennial presents S. Giambrone personal exhibition "A Terrible Love of War", A. Janušonis personal exhibition "For the Poets of Kaunas", Lewben Art Foundation exhibition "Networked Encounters Offline" and Sonic Pattern exhibition

The 10th Kaunas biennial presents Silvia Giambrone personal exhibition A Terrible Love of War, Audrius Janušonis personal exhibition For the Poets of Kaunas, Lewben Art Foundation exhibition Networked Encounters Offline and  Sonic Pattern exhibition.

S. Giambrone exhibition shows works that focus on the hidden and domestic aspects of violence. Violence, that finds in war its most evident legitimacy, is something that belongs to everyday life and that becomes domestic in the most understated ways.

The exposition of the Lewben Art Foundation is about the encounter by a generation of artists who have been investigating the new aesthetics of the image, playing with materials, appearances and figures. The internet and digitalisation have influenced not only the way we all approach figures, but also the way artists do, on one hand, with the most classic forms of art, such as painting and sculpture, and on the other hand, using the latest technologies. They make us think about our approach to art in general; we use more pictures of art than art itself, we are addicted to Instagram, and we are digitalised collectors as well. With part of the digitalisation progress, we can easily access, use, manipulate, save and edit information and data in general. It is useful, and it makes it possible to open up the frontiers of the art world; however, as ‘image consumers’, we risk dying of the surfeit. Artists: Ian Cheng, Gabriele De Santis, Nick Darmstaedter, Mohamed Namou, Deimantas Narkevičius, Simon Denny.

Exhibition Sonic Pattern is curated by Janis Jefferies, professor at Goldsmiths College of London University, Kaunas Biennial expert and partner since 2007, and coordinated by Karen Gaskill who is curating a Sonic Pattern and The textility of code seminar at Kaunas Biennial programme. Artists who exhibit also participate at seminar talks, workshops and performances. This way both programme’ parts, presented by Crafts Council (the exhibition and the seminar) generate a very dynamic and high quality result.
