Elisabeth von Samsonow. Transplants

The philosopher and artist Elisabeth von Samsonow (b. 1956) integrates two apparent opposites in both her life and her work: pure brain work and sculpture as one of the oldest forms of artistic expression. Her production as an artist centers on colorful figurative wood sculptures hewn from one trunk, which resemble testimonies to an unknown culture.

The exhibition in the Dominican Church assembles workgroups from recent years mapping the artist’s exploration of “the body within” and “the body without.” An installation in the apse introduces the visitor to “the laboratory of the endo-/exocorpus,” i.e., the body which is both a solid and a wave.
