Faces - Faces from Kerula / South India, drawn by Baby Appachan

The pictures were created in the scope of a project of the painter and designer Ulla Dziedzioch from Muenster. She visited Pratheeksha Bhavan, a care home located on the mountains of Kattappana, which is led by the brothers and sisters of the order of St. John of God. Ulla Dziedzioch accompanied the people who live there over three months to draw and to paint with them, using a shielded space, free from any therapeutic purpose and open for new experience and eagerness to experiment.

Baby Appachan was interested in drawing from the first day: “Many of his housemates took a seat opposite of him and led him portrait them with a few steady lines […] He often colours in his paintings with glaze and adds a flower to the person. To be able to sign his pictures, he has learned to write his name.”
