The exhibition is dedicated to the 80th birth anniversary of priest, doctor of theology, poet and art collector of tragic destiny Ričardas Mikutavičius. On the display – pictures from the robbed collection which, unfortunately, cost him life.
R. Mikutavičius‘ collection was one of the best-known and most famous in Lithuania among private collections of European art collected during the Soviet era. In 1979 it was exhibited at the State M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art in Kaunas and in 1988 – at the Culture Foundation in Vilnius.
The collection catalogue published in 1996 shows that it accounted for more than 50 paintings, 15 sculptures and several tens units of the applied art created in the 16th – 20th century in different European countries.
Visitors to the exhibition will see paintings from the famous collection found after the robbery, will be able to recall the tragic events related with the priest's death. Empty frames exhibited nearby remind that they are waiting for the still unfound paintings.
