Brukenthal National Museum and Galateca Gallery opened the exhibition “Transylvania Kids”, an event that brought the British artist Simon Henwood to Sibiu. His works were exhibited by most prestigious museums and galleries among which MOMA (NYC), ICA (London), UCLA Hammer Museum (LA) and Galeria Sophie Sheideker (Paris). The artist is also known for his cooperation with Kanye West, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Roisin Murphy, Badly Drawn Boy and Imogen Heap. “Transylvania Kids” is organized in partnership with Galateca Gallery and the curator Roxana Gibescu.
The artist presents gouache works and two installations, all inspired by the kids photographed during his voyages, mainly the one in Transylvania. “It was really nice for me to visit Transylvania. I hope these works suggest what I felt while visiting these places and meeting these kids. Brukenthal Museum is a great location that highlights these works“, said Simon Henwood. The curator Adrian Luca appreciated that the gouache technique gives a movement sensation to the paintings, as if the kids could step out and interact with the visitors.
The works on display are part of the “Adolescents” series, an ongoing 17 year project.
This exhibition is also the first joined project of Brukenthal National Museum and Galateca, a multidisciplinary art and design gallery located in Bucharest. Galateca was founded in 2012 and has organized about 20 exhibitions. For more information about Simon Henwood and Galateca Gallery see: http://www.simonhenwood.com and www.galateca.ro.
“Transylvania Kids” is open until April 26, 2015, at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
