This exciting exhibition explores the town and its people from the signing of the Ulster Covenant in 1912, to the formation of the local UVF, the bombing of Lisburn Cathedral by local suffragette Lillian Metge, and the life and work of Lisburn Protestant and republican Ernest Blythe. War seemed to unite both sides of the Home Rule debate, and many of the local UVF and Irish Volunteers joined up to serve ‘King and country’. Yet this was short lived and the war, which raged for four long years, would have far-reaching consequences for Lisburn.
