DISPLAY: Beatrix Potter: the Land, the Seasons and the War

WWI DISPLAY: A year after Beatrix Potter married and moved to live full time in her beloved Lake District, the First World War broke out. As a farmer and land owner, she came to experience the changes the war brought to rural life in Britain. This display features Potter’s watercolours of the landscape at this period, as well as some of her letters. We also see Potter's only venture into national politics, with her illustrative poster and leaflet campaign for the 1910 election. She campaigned against Free Trade with Germany, and the conscription of working farm horses. Displays complement our permanent collections, there are many free temporary displays around the V&A.
