When the Green Howards Museum reopens in the autumn, our first exhibition will centre on the battle of Ypres (October and November 1914).
This battle was the last to involve open, mobile warfare on the Western Front, before entrenchment and stalemate set in.
By the end of November 1914 the Green Howards had lost a generation of professional, trained soldiers.
The exhibition will explore the role played by the Green Howards during the battle, and also track the experiences of soldiers and their families through diaries, paintings and personal effects.
The exhibition will run until April 2015.
