Engine Trail

Our volunteers have rescued and lovingly restored 27 old stationary steam engines. They will be on hand to answer any questions you might have and lead you through the trail. We have a wide range of many different types of steam engine. Most will be running in steam on these days only. Our oldest engine is over 170 years old. It powered a weaving mill near Rochdale for over 100 years! Several are now unique - the only engine of this type restored and running anywhere in the world! Use the guide to discover more about them. (under 16's must be accompanied by a responsible adult)
