Experience local life in the 60s and 70s with the help of iconic items, including the Chopper bike, a Soda Stream and games that were manufactured in local factories, along with original documents, maps and photographs which depict this exciting time in Peterborough’s history. Don’t miss the chance to see the TV adverts that featured the famous Roman Centurion Roy Kinnear and to listen to radio adverts, which were part of the media campaign to attract newcomers to the city. Listen to audio clips on an original Bakelite telephone of long-term residents and people that relocated to Peterborough from across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth as part of the mass migration to the ‘New Town’. There will also be a children’s dressing-up area set against the backdrop of the music and fashions of the time! Richard Hunt, Archive Manager at Vivacity said, “The exhibition is really just the tip of the iceberg. We have developed an online educational resource for Key Stage 2 and 3 students which will enable them to access photographs, documents and listen to oral histories of the people who remember that time. The Forty Years On material will be fully available in the archive from March 2014 for people to come along and learn about this very exciting time in Peterborough’s history”. Museum opening times are Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm and Mondays in school holidays and Bank Holidays, 10am-5pm. It’s FREE admission to the exhibition, except on special event days when charges apply.
