When Victoria came to the throne in 1837, ice was the preserve of the aristocracy. By the time she died it was almost ubiquitous – used in food storage, in hospitals, and for ice cream production, enjoyed by all levels of society. This exhibition is the story of how this came about.
Hear a brass band play in the ice wells, meet "Mrs Marshall", make ice cream the Victorian way, see the new ice well llighting light up the underground space, and more!
