Mothering Sunday

We will be telling the story of Mothering Sunday around the museum, did you know that the celebration of motherhood is recorded from mid 17th century? Discover the origins of the day and get involved with lots of family activities. Create a quilled flower picture in The Pit Village school, a lovely gift for your mum! Victoria sponge will be made in No. 3 Francis Street in The Town, while apple tart will be baking in Miss Smith’s house in The Town. You can also listen to the Beamish Volunteer Choir performing songs such as “If you were the only girl in the world” and “Daisy Daisy” in The Pit Village chapel from 1.30pm. Why not plant a Georgian flower to take home with you in the gardens of Pockerley Old Hall? Then head inside to make a paper flower. Or why not make a Mothering Sunday card at our 1940s Farm? Make your mum feel special this Mother’s Day at Beamish, with a whole museum dedicated to her!
