Jazz Age Film: The Great Gatsby [12A – contains moderate sex, violence, and bloody images]

More F Scott Fitzgerald— this time an adaptation of his merciless incision into the American Dream, which gets the full-on Luhrmann treatment in this frenzied and lavishly gold-saturated depiction of the jazz age. Narrator Nick Carraway finds himself living next door to the centre of a wild partying set but soon realizes that emptiness and longing lie beneath. Leonardo DiCaprio brings an uneasy charm to the role of the titular enigmatic tycoon with eyes only for his lifelong love, the divine Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). This film is screened at The Little Theatre.
