Festival Forge In

Watch blacksmiths forge hot metal! Join us for our biennial showcase of traditional crafts and skills and have-a-go activities in association with the British Artist Blacksmiths Association (BABA). Try your hand at the blacksmith artists forges or family forge and enjoy a wide range of traditional crafts and skills on display: Ridgeway Forge, Ecclesall Woods Sawmill, Forest Schools (Sat), Sheffield Wildlife Trust, Heeley City Farm, Rachel Poole willow-weaving, Sheffield Lacemakers (Sun), Hallamshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers (Sun) and University of Sheffield Archaeology Students iron smelting demonstrations. See our resident craftspeople in their workshops - Duncan Edwards Knifemaker, Peter Gribbon Grinder, David Southgate Blacksmith, Martin McAssey Glass and Budgie Galore Jewellery - alongside guest artisans in the Learning Centre. Enjoy live music, Whirlow Hall Farm BBQ, living history and family activities. National Mills Weekend See the restored four waterwheels turn and our engine in steam for the first time as part of National Mills Weekend 2017 and hear how our very own team of engineers trained to conserve and restore the Hamlet's machinery. Youngsters can enjoy our miniature and model steam engines display whilst learning all about power! Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 May | Normal museum admission applies.
