The beautiful city of Paris is the birthplace of modern art and home to some of the world’s most significant examples of medieval and Renaissance art. Take a journey through the art of the city’s churches, cathedrals and museums, from medieval masterpieces to contemporary design.
From Ancient Paris to Masterpieces in the Louvre
Tues 18 April, 11am–1.30pm
We will begin by looking at the medieval art and architecture of Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle and the world famous Unicorn tapestries in the Musée de Cluny before exploring the world-famous collection of the Louvre, the largest museum in the world.

The Beginnings of Modernism: The Musée d'Orsay
Tues 25 April, 11am–1.30pm
A fascinating building in its own right, the Musée d'Orsay's collection ranges from French Academic art to the beginnings of modern art, including works by Post-Impressionists including Cézanne, Gauguin, van Gogh and Matisse. Led by Frank Woodgate.
The Musée Rodin and Public Sculpture
Tues 2 May, 11am–1.30pm
On his death in 1917 Rodin donated his entire collection to France on the condition that his home became a public museum. After taking a look at the museum's collection of previously unseen works by Rodin we will investigate Paris' vibrant and often surprising public sculptures. Led by Linda Casey.
The Musée Picasso
Tues 9 May, 11am–1.30pm
Throughout his life Picasso retained a large number of his own works; after his death in 1973 the French state accepted a large number of these works, in lieu of death duties, which formed the collection now housed in the beautiful Hôtel Sallé. Led by Val Woodgate.
The Centre Pompidou and Modern Art
Tues 16 May, 11am–1.30pm
Discover the fascinating story of the Musée National d'Art Moderne - Centre de Création Industrielle, from its controversial design by Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano (now considered an icon of 20th century architecture) to its collection, one of the largest in the world. Led by Alexandra Epps.
